This show followed red rocks. Second night red rocks with moe and string cheese and we get a band repeat here the first night in Eugene. What can I say, Kimock Darkstar opener, my favorite things feedback darkstar verse two, Kesey and the Pranksters all the history and blah blah blah. A must have and the only darkstar during summer sessions. Musta meant alot to phil just like all the other venues played during this tour. Full five stars.

It is really nice of the responsible party for uploading this gem. I have been hoping to hear it ever since. What a great venue and scene. The sound is quite good despite practically ruining Shibuya44's life. You'll quickly get past the glitches. I am playing some if this on my radio show this week.
My wife and I flipped a coin to see who would get the show & who would get the kids. Lucky me this day. I spent the aftenoon in line with a taper friend. We got to hear the soundceck where they played most of the tunes, some repeatedly. I felt like I knew the show before I saw it. There was a dancing area with rows of bleachers behind it. We were upfront and center in the bleachers. Great view until the X kicked in and I couldn't see Phil due to the eye flutter. The music was very fulfilling.
Everything was very well played except perhaps China Doll. Do not overlook the Eyes and the Crazy Fingers with it's LP like intro. Dark Star to start the show is less dark, but more upbeat and not in a wimpy way. I give this a rare 5 stars and say peace. I'm scared Brent

For me this was a great reintroduction to the greatful deads music and one hell of a show. Aside from being an incredible set-list the music seem to vibrate out of every pore of my body and soul. I hadn't seen Phil since summer tour 95 in Seattle and it was good to be back! A friend of mine called up and said he had tickets and I should come straight away, so me and two close friends did and boy were we in for a treat!
Kangs violin added something to the jams and melodies which took the music to whole other relm which can't quite be explained. The line up was bar none and at one point during the Return of Dark Star my good freiend screamed out "OH MY GOD IT'S THE F*@KING GRATEFUL DEAD" which only seem to stoke the fire. That's wasn't the only seen he would make during that show...hehe
WOW...UNREAL!!! mmmust have:)

I am a devout Dark Star fan and have always cringed when I think of anyone but Jerry leading the jam into the inner reaches of space. This one however, is well worth my setting my prejudices aside and listening. excellently played, good sound and very exploratory.
I give it a 4 only because I am hesitant to give any show a 5 including the Dead unless it really breaks into new un-known lands.
The Rest of the show is very good as well and worhty of a download.

1999 was a great year for me, for I spent the whole year on the road! Some friends and I drove out to Red Rocks from VA to jump on this little tour and man, did we have a hoot! I remember this show as being my favorite of the bunch. As a previous reviewer mentioned it was hot...damn hot. Early in the afternoon I passed a group of bicycle cops, which kinda made me nervous due to fact I was holding about 2 ozs. of 'Bubblegum' ( Ah, the blissful ignorance and arrogance of youth). As we passed on that little bike trail in the park I swear one of the cops turns and she looks me in the eye and says "Somebody sure smells good." They kept on truckin' and so did I!
I knew then it was gonna be a good day. The venue was very cozy and had great sound. I remember being surprised that the sound seemed better than at Red Rocks, which had left me a little disappointed (that had been my virgin voyage to the Rocks). Anyway, I spent the whole night dancing with a girlie that I had met and sorta fallen for on the previous summers "Furthur Fest'... Lets just say the whole experience had me spinning righteously. Gosh, I sure do miss those days!!
NAMASTE!!!

Master Dat?
db.etree.org lists this with the following notes.. There also seems to be a schoepps source. i am wondering if the two are the same copy that some hippy lost the source info.. Anyone have another copy to compare? Thanks!
Sounds like a bad EAC... numerous clicks and noises throughout Dark Star
12/11/2001 tim burke Any1 know if the flaws in dark star are on the other circulating version:[Dat>CDR>CDR>EAC>WAV>SHN] and/or the Master Dat from this version?
05/13/2004 Charles Wier The flaws are not due to a bad EAC. They appear like pseudo-analog sample and hold problems, perhaps due to clock sync issues either during recording or DAT transfer. I have noted the following flaws in Dark Star (d1t01): dropouts or pops at 13:57, 15:21, 18:38, 18:47.5, 19:24, & 21:07 and slight "static crackle" from 18:59-19:01.
There is also a 64 sample dropout at 0.024 of Crazy Fingers (d1t03), after which there is a faint 11.5 kHz high pitched tone beginning at 0.025 of d1t03 through the end of the show; the tone is not present on the 1st 2 tracks.
The whole show appears to have been through analog compression (i.e., limiting, not data compression like mp3); then the maximum signal level is -6.5 dB. It's a great show; it sure would be nice to find a clean DAT master.

I must say that I am a huge fan of both Kimock and Kang's work, and the way they feed off each other at this show is simply amazing. If your a fan of either Kimock or Kang/SCI, this is a must download. Oh yea, and did I forget to mention PHIL?!? :)

Simply the best of the Phil '99 shows. While 8/13 is also great, if you're gonna get any of them, get this one. The show opens boldy with Dark Star, and goes where no man has ever gone before. The Favortie Things>Dark Star>Eyes segment is beautiful. One of the best Eyes ever.
Good Crazy Fingers, too.
